Koupepia, a story about love, acceptance and food…
Over a bite of Koupepia, a traditional Cypriot delicacy, Petros meets Eleni – a British Cypriot transgender woman. The two appear to have nothing in common. They bond over the food of their heritage. This reframes Petros’ relationship to his son, queer people, and the Cypriot identity. The question this film leaves us with, is “Can people be more than is what we assume?” Yorgo Glynatsis is the founder of House of Glynatsis Productions. He is a director, writer, producer, and actor. He is the creator of award-winning LGBTQI+ short films. His passion for filmmaking started in 2020 when he wrote scenes for his own acting showreel. Due to a lack of authentic onscreen representation, he wanted to use his voice. He aimed to raise awareness about a past traumatic event. As a result, he created the short film Trigger. The film was nominated in British and international LGBTQI+ festivals. It won the award of Best International Film at the Fuse International Film Festival in Kingston. Now, Sophia Vi is a transgender British-Greek Cypriot writer, director, actor and CEO of Koupepia Films. She trained at The London Studio Centre and The International School of Screen Acting.Sophia has recently written and produced 2 short films – Koupepia and Façade. She is currently in development on her first feature film.Sophia focuses on her writing and producing. She seeks to use her production company, Koupepia Films. Her aim is to create short-form LGBT+ and diasporic stories of joy. These stories can then be developed for long-form features.
